Senior Photography, Don't pass it by!

I had been driving past this door on an old abandoned house for years. Every time I would pass it, I would say to my wife," I love that door, one day I'm gonna shoot a portrait of someone standing in that doorway". Well this went on for years, I'm not kidding. I just never got around to it or had the right client. Awhile back Hannah wanted me to do her Senior pics and I told her that I had the perfect backdrop. She was game so we headed to that old structure, jumped out of the truck and shot a quick natural light portrait. The whole process took 5 minutes maybe. I love that old door. Maybe I'll use it again in a few years. Here are a few more from Hannah's Senior Portrait session. Senior Portraits are probably my favorite type of photography.

Great Afternoon with Becca!

Sunday afternoon, I shot some senior portraits with Becca. She went to school with my daughters and I have known her for a few years. The weather was not ideal. The wind was whipping her hair into her eyes, making her eyes water. Trying to stick an umbrella on top of a lightstand was totally out. I couldn't carry enough sandbags to hold that baby down. It was natural lighting all the way. She hung in there like a trooper and we captured some nice images. I love doing senior pics. I really enjoy talking to the students about their plans and seeing the excitement in there faces. They are about to start a new adventure, to places unknown. I remember those same feelings........it wasn't that long ago.

Senior Pics with Haleigh Wed. 24 Nov 2010

My daughter Haleigh has been putting off getting her senior pics done for weeks. I think once she saw how beautiful Dana looked in hers, she was ready. We headed down the dirt road we live on to a shady spot. Haleigh is a natural. Once we started shooting she just went with the flow and we nailed some awesome shots. My favorite is another fence shot. The "Private Property No Trespassing" sign worked perfect for Haleigh as she is a very private person, until she gets to know you.

I met Dana late in the afternoon to take advantage of what photographers call the "Golden Hour". It seems to me it should really be called the " Golden 40 Mins." Our first stop was an unamed farm trail near my home. It is now know as Mosquito Alley. We managed to get a few shots in before we made a retreat for the truck. Dana never complained even though I whined like a little kid. I have got to buy one of those foggers. Next we hit a 6 foot chain link fence to shoot what I think is the shot of the day. I love fences. They add so much to an otherwise boring background. A couple of shots in the tall grass at my house and it was dark. I had a great time working with Dana. Hopefully we can shoot again soon.
